A concept for a low carbon CLT hotel in costal Busan, South Korea
Busan, South Korea
The brief was to create for a CLT (cross-laminated timber) hotel in Busan, South Korea, as part of extensive transport development. The hotel would sit above an underground transport hub.
The structure was proposed as Cross-laminated timber to reduce embodied carbon. Prefabricated modules were employed to aid with quality assurance and reduce time on site.
Timber buildings in Korea are limited to a height of 18 metres, (approximately six stories) and a footprint of 6000 square metres. These constraints drove the form and massing.
Six individual buildings limited the maximum footprint of each building while accommodating the required rooms, these buildings connected at high-level with walkways.
An extensive basement contained restaurants and bars above the transport hub.
The hotel buildings formed a ziggurat to create a private terrace for each room. This ziggurat varied to accommodate public space at ground level and respond to solar gain.
Parametric tools ensured the constraints were met while allowing many configurations to be tested.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
